Charles Gallant

In Sorel, on October 27, 2024, Mr. Charles Gallant passed away.

Partner of Nicole Charpentier, he is survived by his children: Caroline (David Bergeron), Elaine (Pascal Ouellet), Matthieu (Brianne Fequet), and Lysiane. Charles has gone to join his son, Charles-Michael.

He also leaves behind the children he took under his wing thanks to his big heart: Karine Hervieux, Stéphanie Gill, Elizabeth Gill, and Emilie Bacon. He is also survived by his brothers: Richard, André-Renaud, Aurèle, Jean-Eudes, Magella, and Neil; his sisters: Claudine and Danielle; and his mother, Yvonne Labrecque, who is still with us.

Charles was known for being a teaser and a jokester. He loved whittling pieces of wood with his small knives and surrounded himself with various objects and religious symbols he collected during his travels.

A great lover of nature and the river, he lived for a long time in Sept-Îles on the North Shore. He enjoyed walks in the forest, building shelters, and dogs. Whenever he had the chance to return to his homeland (the Matapédia Valley), he would reconnect with his family.

A father with a big heart, he never hesitated to take the young people around him under his wing, offering them small keepsakes, adventures, stories, or inspiring words. He did not consider himself a wise man, though his wisdom was undeniable. Charles, “the Champion,” left an indelible mark on the lives of his own children as well as all the young people he took under his wing.

Charles appreciated both simplicity and depth. He was attentive to those he loved and was a good listener. He liked to make people laugh to lighten the mood, but also to provoke reflection on life’s big questions, inviting everyone to appreciate it more.

Soccer coach, Bonhomme Carnaval, volunteer firefighter, handyman, mobile home renovator, resourceful mechanic, car and truck parts salesman… He experienced all sorts of things in his very busy life!

There is no ceremony planned at this time. In the spring of 2025, we will organize a memorial service in Matapédia.
