{"id":13136,"date":"2026-02-04T09:25:30","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T14:25:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/publideces.com\/obituaries\/andre-segal\/"},"modified":"2026-07-28T10:33:47","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T14:33:47","slug":"andre-segal","status":"publish","type":"obituary","link":"https:\/\/publideces.com\/en\/obituaries\/andre-segal\/","title":{"rendered":"Andr\u00e9 S\u00e9gal"},"content":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"featured_media":13137,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","template":"","class_list":["post-13136","obituary","type-obituary","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":{"email_obituary":"","death_place":"","obituary_birth_date":"January 29, 1932","obituary_death_date":"January 29, 2026","death_age":"","obituary_description":"It is with sadness and gratitude that we announce the passing of Andr\u00e9 S\u00e9gal, widower of Monique Delaulne, husband of Louise L\u00e9gar\u00e9, at the wonderful Maison Michel-Sarrazin in Quebec City, on January 29, 2026, at the age of 94.\n\nDuring his career, he taught at Coll\u00e8ge Classique de Jonqui\u00e8re, then history for 30 years at Universit\u00e9 Laval, and finally at Universit\u00e9 du 3e \u00e2ge, leaving the mark of an exceptional educator.\nHe advocated for democracy, unions, and Quebec's independence.\nHe leaves a part of his knowledge and understanding of the world to his 8,000 students, and his humanism and sense of solidarity to all those he met.\n\nHe is survived by his wife and companion of the last 30 years, Louise L\u00e9gar\u00e9,\nHis four children and their families:\nMyriam S\u00e9gal and her children, Jean-Marie Brisson (Karine L\u00e9vesque), Maxime Brisson (Gabrielle Gagnon), Sergue\u00ef Brisson (Laura Saindon);\nAlexis S\u00e9gal (Lucie St-Jean) and his son, \u00c9ric S\u00e9gal (Maxine Dandois-Fafard), as well as his mother, Andr\u00e9e Lachapelle;\nGa\u00ebl S\u00e9gal (Diane Leroux);\nC\u00e9cile S\u00e9gal and her children, Marie-Catherine Mignault, Laurence Mignault (Thomas-Yves Boulianne), Fran\u00e7ois Mignault (M\u00e9lanie Derome), Nicolas Mignault (Gloria Gilbert), and their father, Louis Mignault;\nas well as his great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Adrien, Jacob, \u00c9lisabeth, B\u00e9atrice, Lexy, Dimitri.\n\nHe is also survived by Louise's four children, whom he considered his own, their spouses and children:\nNathalie Gigu\u00e8re (the late Gilbert Cusson) and her sons, \u00c9tienne Cusson (Etienne Rheault), Philippe Cusson and Nicolas Cusson (Laurie Carbonneau);\nMarie Claude Gigu\u00e8re (Dany Provost) and her daughters, Val\u00e9rie Deshaye (Charles Turgeon), \u00c8ve-Marie Deshaye (Pierrick Lemercier) and B\u00e9atrice Deshaye (Pascal Lessard);\nFran\u00e7ois Gigu\u00e8re (Sonia Prince) and his sons, Louis Gigu\u00e8re and Simon Gigu\u00e8re;\nLuc Gigu\u00e8re (Linda Breton) and his sons, Charles Gigu\u00e8re and Beno\u00eet Gigu\u00e8re.\nAs well as his great-grandchildren: \u00c9lisabeth, \u00c9douard, Albert and Elliot;\n\nHe is also sadly missed by many friends, including the Li\u00e9nard family from Belgium.\n\nA religious service will be held at Montmartre Canadien,\nlocated at 1679, chemin St-Louis, in Quebec City, on February 21 at 3:00 PM.\nThe family will receive condolences on site on Friday evening, February 20, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM\nas well as on Saturday, February 21, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM.\n\nThe ashes will be interred in the columbarium of Saint-F\u00e9lix de Cap Rouge Church in the spring.","exposition":{"location":"","address":"","repeater":null},"ceremony":{"location":"","address":"","repeater":null},"burrial":{"location":"","specific_location":"","address":"","repeater":null},"reception":{"location":"","address":"","repeater":null},"thanks":"","organism_list":[12341],"other_organisms":"","funeral_home":[666],"other_funeral_homes":"","memoriam_option":"none","memoriam_images_base_repeater":null,"memoriam_images_premium_repeater":null,"qr_plaque_option":"none","qr_plaque_quantity":0},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/publideces.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/obituary\/13136","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/publideces.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/obituary"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/publideces.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/obituary"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/publideces.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=13136"}],"acf:post":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/publideces.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/funeral_home\/666"},{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/publideces.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/organism\/12341"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/publideces.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/13137"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/publideces.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=13136"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
