Jean-Claude Berthou

On January 6, 2023, Mr. Jean-Claude Berthou passed away at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) at the age of 83. Born in Paris on August 10, 1939, he was the son of Marcel Berthou and Germaine Sabatier.

The family will welcome his friends, colleagues, and other acquaintances at a private reception to be held later in spring 2023, in one of his favorite spots in Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal.

He is survived by his daughter Emmanuelle Berthou, his sister Élisabeth Berthou (Jean-François Vitrant), his brother Richard, and several nephews and nieces.

Thousands of Laval students knew Jean-Claude (JiCi to his friends) as a music teacher at Pie-IX, Leblanc, and Georges Vanier high schools of the Commission scolaire Les Écores, now the Centre de service scolaire de Laval. The countless year-end concerts and galas he organized and directed will be remembered.

The family wishes to thank all the staff of Résidence Château Vincent d’Indy, where he resided for 9 years, and CHSLD Saint-Georges, where he spent his final months.
