On November 22, 2022, Yvon Joly, aged 82, passed away after a long and valiant battle.
He was our ‘pôpah’, the tallest, the strongest, the most skilled…
And Brielle’s “button” grandpa.
He instilled in us critical thinking, ethics, generosity, and perseverance.
He did not possess the vocabulary to express sorrow or joy, gratitude or love… his ‘love language’ was ‘doing’ for others.
Regardless of the time or place, everyone could count on him to help them out, assist them, support them, or give them the shirt off his back…
Always present, he was a figure of constancy both with his loved ones and throughout his more than 50 years working in the printing and binding industry.
Today cancer took him, but it was Alzheimer’s and dementia that stole him from us, bit by bit, for years, even decades.
Today our ‘pôpah’ was freed from his physical and mental suffering and finally found his freedom.
Today our father is no longer with us… but will always remain in our memories.
He is survived by his children, Annik and Benoît, and his grandchildren, Brielle and Cáel. He was the son of the late Ernest and Gabrielle (Bellemare); brother of Roger (Ginette Beaudin), the late Pierre (Monique Fillion), Alain (Hélène Mottet); and uncle of Chantal, France, René, the late André, Jean-François, and Simon.
If you believe in angels, perhaps you will catch a glimpse of him, cigarette in hand, cruising in his Meteor 57, busy with projects or tinkering, on his lawn tractor tending to his large property, or simply sitting on his porch, Pixelle by his side, greeting neighbors and their four-legged companions who also share the sadness of his departure.
As per his wishes, there will be no service or ceremony. His ashes will be scattered in the spring in the river he cherished and admired daily.

The family invites you to express your sympathy by supporting (financially or voluntarily) those afflicted by Alzheimer’s.
More specifically, by providing support and respite to all caregivers, often invisible, who struggle daily with great personal sacrifice and in silence to offer a dignified and loving end-of-life to their loved ones in the comfort of their homes.
