Gilles Marchand

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gilles Marchand, who died on April 2, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on September 6, 1951, Gilles grew up in Laval and spent his final days at the Hôtel-Dieu de Sherbrooke.

Gilles is survived by his children: Tania (Michel) and Mathieu (Soline), his granddaughter Lana, as well as his former spouse and mother of his children Patricia Huber and many other relatives and friends, all dear to his heart. He was preceded in death by his father Roger Marchand, his mother Jeanne D’Arc Lacasse, and his brother Robert Marchand.

Gilles was a man of beauty, kindness, intelligence, and immeasurable heart. He was passionate about life, nature, the arts, and animals. Endowed with unwavering faith and an ability to see the best in everyone, he was the greatest of idealists. He had a gift for words and used them profusely. He was authentic, romantic, courageous, thirsty for freedom, and sometimes eccentric.

He never missed an opportunity to laugh and loved his children more than anything. A great poet, he had his feet firmly planted on the ground. He had a presence and could make anyone feel like the most important person in the world.

The funeral will be held on July 20, 2024, at Saint-Maxime Church in Laval. Condolences will be received from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by the Mass.

The burial will take place at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery in Montreal from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at lot B1675.

A reception will then be held at his home from 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM. A commemorative plaque will be unveiled at the foot of a maple tree that will be planted in his memory. The day will conclude with a campfire and fireworks to celebrate Gilles’ life.

In lieu of cut flowers, Gilles preferred potted flowers so as not to harm the nature he loved so much. Written intentions will be collected at the church for a ceremony that will take place in the evening on his land.

Please bring folding chairs for the evening at his home and prepare a joke in his honor, as he loved to laugh so much.
