André Ségal
It is with sadness and gratitude that we announce the passing of André Ségal, widower of Monique Delaulne, husband of Louise Légaré, at the wonderful Maison Michel-Sarrazin in Quebec City, on January 29, 2026, at the age of 94.
During his career, he taught at Collège Classique de Jonquière, then history for 30 years at Université Laval, and finally at Université du 3e âge, leaving the mark of an exceptional educator.
He advocated for democracy, unions, and Quebec’s independence.
He leaves a part of his knowledge and understanding of the world to his 8,000 students, and his humanism and sense of solidarity to all those he met.
He is survived by his wife and companion of the last 30 years, Louise Légaré,
His four children and their families:
Myriam Ségal and her children, Jean-Marie Brisson (Karine Lévesque), Maxime Brisson (Gabrielle Gagnon), Sergueï Brisson (Laura Saindon);
Alexis Ségal (Lucie St-Jean) and his son, Éric Ségal (Maxine Dandois-Fafard), as well as his mother, Andrée Lachapelle;
Gaël Ségal (Diane Leroux);
Cécile Ségal and her children, Marie-Catherine Mignault, Laurence Mignault (Thomas-Yves Boulianne), François Mignault (Mélanie Derome), Nicolas Mignault (Gloria Gilbert), and their father, Louis Mignault;
as well as his great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Adrien, Jacob, Élisabeth, Béatrice, Lexy, Dimitri.
He is also survived by Louise’s four children, whom he considered his own, their spouses and children:
Nathalie Giguère (the late Gilbert Cusson) and her sons, Étienne Cusson (Etienne Rheault), Philippe Cusson and Nicolas Cusson (Laurie Carbonneau);
Marie Claude Giguère (Dany Provost) and her daughters, Valérie Deshaye (Charles Turgeon), Ève-Marie Deshaye (Pierrick Lemercier) and Béatrice Deshaye (Pascal Lessard);
François Giguère (Sonia Prince) and his sons, Louis Giguère and Simon Giguère;
Luc Giguère (Linda Breton) and his sons, Charles Giguère and Benoît Giguère.
As well as his great-grandchildren: Élisabeth, Édouard, Albert and Elliot;
He is also sadly missed by many friends, including the Liénard family from Belgium.
A religious service will be held at Montmartre Canadien,
located at 1679, chemin St-Louis, in Quebec City, on February 21 at 3:00 PM.
The family will receive condolences on site on Friday evening, February 20, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM
as well as on Saturday, February 21, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM.
The ashes will be interred in the columbarium of Saint-Félix de Cap Rouge Church in the spring.
