Martin H. Roy

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Martin H. Roy, in Québec City on September 17, 2026, at the age of 61.

He leaves to mourn his daughter Noémie, whom he loved deeply and who held a unique place in his heart; his grandchildren, Léanne and Julien; Mélanie, Noémie’s mother and his loyal friend, who, together with her family, always welcomed him as one of their own; his brother Didier and his niece Charlotte; as well as Daniel and Brigitte, who meant a great deal to him, along with many other relatives and friends.

Gifted with broad knowledge, a remarkable memory, and great sensitivity, Martin had a humour all his own. Passionate about history, he knew—with astonishing precision—the dates, events, and figures that shaped the world, with a particular interest in Québec, to which he was deeply attached.

His quick mind, curiosity, and gift for commenting on current events notably shaped his path in journalism and politics—two fields that deeply interested him.

In accordance with his wishes, a farewell ceremony will be held at a later date, in private.

May you finally find peace and gentleness, Martin. May your memory remain within us like a horizon opening onto the majestic St. Lawrence River that you loved so much.

Those who wish to honour his memory may make a donation to the Service d’entraide Basse-Ville (SEBV), in Québec City, a charitable organization that supports people in vulnerable situations. Martin devoted time to it, and its mission was particularly close to his heart (see below for full details).
