At the CHSLD Marc-André-Jacques in East Broughton, on May 10, 2024, at the age of 63, Mrs. Chantale Dion passed away.
Daughter of the late Mr. Jean-Marc Dion and Mrs. Colette Tremblay. She was born in Quebec City, but had been institutionalized from a very young age due to her health condition.
She is survived by her brothers, Richard and Benoît, as well as her sister Anik and several cousins.
Posthumous message from Chantale:
I was baptized Chantale Dion. While I was meant to be my parents’ greatest joy, I was born with a rare genetic disease, Crouzon syndrome, which was discovered shortly after my birth. I never learned to speak, all my other senses were severely affected, not to mention the painful suffering my condition caused and the various illnesses I contracted.
I therefore had to be entrusted to institutions capable of providing all the care my condition required. First in Baie-Saint-Paul, the land of my ancestors, at the Convent of the Franciscan Sisters, then in various locations across the province until my final home at the CHSLD Marc-André-Jacques in East Broughton.
I passed away peacefully on the night of May 10, 2024, at the end of a life that was trying. However, I had the grace of being cared for by human beings of a kindness that I can now describe as divine.
All the staff members of the various institutions and homes who accompanied me during my stays did so with the greatest benevolence as well as with a respectful concern for my fragile condition. I was surrounded, supported, cared for, and loved. It is to those who watch over human beings whom life has not favored with such humanism that, from the eternity where I now reside, I express my eternal gratitude.
Richard Dion (on behalf of my sister Chantale)
