Charles Sucsan

On January 27, at Saint-Hyacinthe Hospital, a few months before his 90th birthday, which he had hoped to celebrate on May 29, Charles Sucsan passed away.

He passed away surrounded by the love and tenderness of his wife Dorothée, his children and their spouses: Charles Jean (Mark), Alexandre (Stéphanie), Caroline (Gianni Claudio), and Philippe (Jessica).

The man and artist has gone to join in eternity his daughter Désirée, his mother Anna, his father Charles, his three brothers—Albert, Tibor, and Dénes—as well as his first wife Michèle and many family members and friends in Canada, France, and Hungary.

In addition to his wife and four children, he is survived by his two grandsons, Liam and Étienne, whom he adored so much, his nephews and nieces, their children and spouses, as well as his sister-in-law Lydia and many other friends and admirers of his art.

A courageous, versatile, and multidisciplinary artist, he leaves to current and future generations a considerable artistic body of work spanning 7 decades, from the fifties to today.

Recipient of the National Assembly of Quebec medal, he is recognized for his ceramics, paintings, frescoes, bas-reliefs, drawings, murals, sculptures, watercolors, and decorative arts, through which he explored both figurative and abstract art, ensuring his continued presence in a body of work that is both varied and unique.

Inspired by mythology and history, his artistic approach was always guided by the search for the meaning of life, which he said he found in the love of the people around him.

A celebration of his life and work is planned for later in the year, to which relatives, friends, and admirers of his art will be invited.
